If you need to grant a user edit access to a specific dashboard without giving them access to all dashboards, private dashboards provide the necessary control. This guide explains how to configure permissions to achieve this.
Understanding Private Dashboards
A private dashboard is only visible to users who are explicitly added to it. By using private dashboards, you can ensure a user has access to only the dashboards they need, nothing more.
Steps to Grant a User Edit Access to a Single Dashboard
- Set the Correct Account-Level Permissions
- Navigate to Account Settings → User Permissions.
- Assign the following permissions:
- ✅ Can be added to a private dashboard
- ✅ Can be made an editor of a private dashboard
- Add the User to the Private Dashboard
- Go to the Dashboard Access Page for the specific dashboard.
- Add the user as a viewer first.
- Upgrade Their Role to Editor
- Once added, update their role to Editor for that specific dashboard.
Result
With these settings:
- The user can only see the private dashboard(s) they are explicitly added to.
- They cannot see open dashboards.
They can edit only the private dashboard(s) they have been granted access to.
